New York City and New York State fire codes require that a New York City
certified fireguard be present at every public performance.
This is a very
real requirement, and we cannot make any concessions on this point.
We recommend
that each producer get certified or get their tech staff or house manager
certified as a fireguard, this is by far the easiest and cheapest solution. The
test is not difficult and not terribly time consuming, find the link to the
study guide to the left. All basic contact and location information can be found
on page two of the Fire Guard Information .pdf file.
A letter of
recommendation is required by the fire dept. We will be happy to provide it on
Horse Trade letterhead or you can use your own letterhead.

NOTE:
The recommendation letter should be on employer’s letterhead. If not on employers letterhead, signature must be notarized.
The fire Guard is required to fill out and sign the fire log before each
performance. Failure to do so will result in a fine, and a cancellation of the
performance plus a fine if the fire dept catches it, so please make sure the log
is signed.
Each theater
has a fire log and each fire log includes the official checklist of things that
must be inspected nightly, if the fireguard has any questions please feel free
to put them in touch with us.
If you
cannot provide a fireguard, one will be provided by Horse Trade for a fee of $75
per performance plus a $100 penalty if we are not given 48 hours notice to fill
the position. Better rates are available for full runs and with early warning.
